COUNTDOWN TO FCE - SPEAKING AND LISTENING (pages 20 and 21)

- deafening: (adj) extremely loud: The music was deafening.
- display: (v) verb [T] to arrange something or a collection of things so that they can be seen by the public: Family photographs were displayed on the wall.
- glare: verb [I] to shine too brightly: The sun was glaring right in my eyes.
- night watchman: a person who guards a building at night.
- open-air: (adj) describes a place that does not have a roof, or an event which takes place outside: an open-air concert/market
- spectacular: (adj) very exciting to look at: a spectacular view. He scored a spectacular goal in the second half. There was a spectacular sunset last night.
